Contracts and authorities
- 17 weeks beforeCheck the notice period: three months from the first of the next month
The Civil Code gives a three-month period for an open-ended lease, counted from the first day of the month after the notice is delivered. A tenant needs no reason, a landlord does.
- 14 weeks beforeGive notice in writing and have the delivery confirmed
The notice has to be written and delivered. Keep the confirmation, the period runs from delivery.

The cap has been three times the monthly rent since 2020. The landlord returns it after the tenancy ends and owes interest on it.

Municipal collection yards take bulky waste from residents, and cities put out containers on set days.

In a block of flats the choice often follows the wiring in the building. Installation can take weeks.

The distribution company follows the address, the supplier is your choice. Read the meters on the day of the handover and put the numbers in the record.

The law does not prescribe a form, so a signed record with photos is what decides about the deposit later.

Moving day

After the move

The change is reported at the registration office of the new municipality and carries a small fee. Bring the ID card and proof that you may live there.

The change of permanent residence forwards nothing. Order the forwarding service and change the address at the parcel companies as well.
- 7 days afterTell the building manager how many people live there
Water, heating and waste are charged per person, and the tenant has to report a change in the number of residents within 15 days.
- 10 days afterID card: apply for a new one within 15 working days
Changing the permanent residence invalidates the old card. The new one is free in this case.
- 2 weeks afterSchool: the address decides which school takes the child
Every address belongs to a catchment school, which has to accept the child. Enrolment runs in April.

The insured person has to report a change of address to the health insurance company. The general practitioner can be changed every three months.

The municipality charges it per person with permanent residence. Register in the new municipality and cancel it in the old one.
