Contracts and authorities

17 weeks before
Check the notice period: three months to the first of a month
That is what the standard lease (typeformular A10) says for a flat. A room or a fixed-term lease can say something else, so read section 11 of your own contract.
14 weeks before
Give notice in writing and keep the receipt
Send it so that you can prove when it arrived. The notice period runs from the first of the next month.
13 weeks before
Arrange viewings for the next tenant
11 weeks before
Sign the new lease
10 weeks before
Deposit: up to three months, plus up to three months paid in advance
The landlord may ask for both, so six months' rent can be due at signing. The deposit is settled after the move-out inspection.

Cancel internet and TV contracts

Contents insurance: report the new address before the move

You are called in writing at least a week ahead and get the report at the inspection. A landlord with more than one unit who skips it loses the claim for redecoration.

Bulky waste: fixed pickup days or the recycling centre
Most municipalities collect bulky waste on set days or after booking; the recycling centre takes the rest.

Factory-reset the smart home devices

Clean the old place for the handover

Internet: the building decides which lines you can choose from
Fibre or coax belongs to the property, and the choice of provider follows from it. Installation can take weeks.

Electricity: pick a supplier, the grid company follows the address
The supplier registers you in DataHub from the moving date, and it takes a few working days. Read the meter on the day itself.

Test the internet connection

Move-in inspection: report defects within 14 days
A landlord with more than one unit has to hold an inspection and hand you a written report. Whatever you do not report in writing within 14 days becomes yours at the move-out.

After the move

Report the move to the municipality within five days
The report goes through borger.dk with MitID and is free. Reporting late can cost a fine.
3 days after
Caretaker and association: name plate, lift, moving fee
The caretaker puts the name on the door and the letterbox and hands over the keys to the laundry and the storage room. Many associations want the lift booked and charge a fee for moving day.
5 days after
Authorities get the address from the civil register
Tax, pension, the vehicle register and the health service all read the address from the register. You do not report it again.
7 days after
Mail forwarding: PostNord charges for it, e-Boks does not need it
Letters from public authorities arrive digitally anyway. Order forwarding for the rest, and change the address at the parcel carriers.
7 days after
Health card: a new one comes automatically, choose the doctor yourself
Moving to another municipality means a new health card and often a new doctor. Choosing a doctor for other reasons costs a fee.
2 weeks after
Day care and school: apply in the new municipality
The place follows the municipality and the waiting list runs in months. The school district follows the address.

Tell the bank, employer and insurers

Update subscriptions and delivery services
