60 tasks · General checklist
Contracts and authorities
- 17 weeks beforeCheck the notice period: it follows the rent interval
For an open-ended lease the Civil Code ties the notice to the interval the rent is paid in, so one month for monthly rent. A fixed-term contract ends early only if it says so.
- 14 weeks beforeGive notice in writing and keep proof it arrived
A letter with a signature of receipt or a registered letter is what counts if there is a dispute about the deposit later.
- 13 weeks beforeArrange viewings for the next tenant
- 11 weeks beforeSign the new lease
- 10 weeks beforeDeposit: usually one month, set by the contract
The law puts no cap on it. Write down in the contract what it covers and when it comes back.

- 6 weeks beforeBook a van for the cellar and small items
- 4 weeks beforeBook time off for moving day
- 3 weeks beforeDraw up the list of address changes
- 2 weeks beforeHome contents insurance: report the new address
The voluntary policy has to name the new address from the day of the handover, and it usually covers the goods during the move.
- 2 weeks beforeCompulsory catastrophe insurance for owners
Every home in Romania has to carry the PAD policy against earthquake, flood and landslide. It is compulsory for the owner, not for the tenant.

- 2 weeks beforeDraw a furniture plan per room, take measurements
- 2 weeks beforeElectricity: take over the consumption point at the supplier
The distribution operator follows the address and cannot be chosen; the supplier can, since the market was liberalised. Take the meter index on the handover day.
- 2 weeks beforeGas: the same two steps as for electricity
The network operator follows the address, the supplier is chosen. Both contracts have to be put in the new name.
- 7 days beforeTest the internet connection
- 1 day beforeHandover record: meter indexes, inventory, photos
The record is the usual annex to a Romanian lease. Both sides sign it, and it settles the deposit at the end.

- 7 days afterID card: change the domicile within 15 days
The change of domicile goes to the local population records office. A tenant who keeps the old domicile takes a residence stamp instead, valid up to a year.
- 7 days afterMail forwarding at the post office is a paid service
Changing the domicile forwards nothing. Order the forwarding service and change the address at the courier companies.
- 2 weeks afterSchool: the address decides the catchment
Every address belongs to a school district that has to take the child. Enrolment for the first grade runs in spring.
- 2 weeks afterTell the bank, employer and insurers
- 2 weeks afterUpdate subscriptions and delivery services
- 2 weeks afterLocal tax office: waste fee and property tax follow the address
The waste fee is charged per person at the town hall, and a bought home is declared to the local tax office within 30 days.
- 2 weeks afterFamily doctor: register with one near the new address
The registration is not tied to the domicile and can be changed. A doctor close by is worth the paperwork.
In the app: when setting up the move or under Tasks → Template. Everything can be deselected; a template is a suggestion.
